Another DealDey adventure led me to Uptown Asian Cuisine. If not for anything else, Dealdey is definitely good for their restaurant deals…in terms of pricing. I had been eyeing Uptown on my list of places to try. I bought a deal for a two course meal that included four large spicy chicken wings, special basmati fried rice with a combo of chicken, beef, vegetables, and seafood, and chapman to drink (N1750). I’m not sure how much all this would have been without the deal, I think per the fine print would have originally been about N3000 or more. I went there one day after work, but I did takeaway. I wasn’t in the mood to sit at a nice restaurant alone. Perhaps if I had planned it better, I would have brought a book to read and all.
In my opinion, Uptown looks nice, from outside and inside. It was pretty quite that day. There were only two other customers at that time (around 5:15pm). The lounge part is upstairs, but I only stayed downstair. I showed one of the waiters my Dealdey printout and he went to go put in my order. I guess because I was waiting for my takeaway order to be done, no one really felt the need to attend to me again or ask if I needed anything. After about 10 minutes, I was about to ask for my chapman while I waited, but the waiter came out with my packaged food and chapman in a plastic water bottle. I had to pay an additional N200 for the takeaway packs.
When I got home and ate my meal, my stomach was doing a happy dance. The basmati fried rice with all the goodies in it tasted so good! It wasn’t all mushy and stuck together. I love fried rice with fried egg in it and this had just that. The chicken wings….yum.com! The wings were breaded and fried. It wasn’t really spicy but the sauce it was put into went well with the rice. There are a good number of Asian cuisine restaurants in Abuja, and this is now one of my top 5…or maybe I should go back to try more things before making that decision. I look forward to going back.
