I was looking for an inexpensive place to eat on my way home. I had always seen Chicken Etcetera.. in Gwarinpa but never really gave it a second look but for the sake of a review, I went in to check them out. They are pretty much a fast food chain like Chicken Republic or Kilimanjaro so they have the mix of Nigerian food and snacks, though they also have outside seating which I rarely see in chain restaurants.

I was welcomed by the waitress who stood behind the meal counter and asked for my order. I proceeded to ask her a couple of questions about each meal displayed. She seemed quite knowledgeable particularly when it came to the prices. I liked that (I did notice that the manager kept telling her certain things later like to make sure to get a copy of the receipt etc so I figured she was newly hired) .

I ordered the Porridge Yam (N350) with fried plantains (250), a bit of stew (free) and piece of grilled peppered ponmo (Cow Skin) (N150), I would have really liked some orijin but they don’t serve alcohol at fast food joints so I got a bottle of H2O Sparkling Water (N150)

I enjoyed my meal, although the porridge yam was a bit oily for my taste but it was well seasoned. The plantains were nice as well (though I feel like if you can mess up plantains then really you should just close your business).

The ponmo was friggin hard though! I literally had to bite and bite..felt like a wild animal after a while. I know ponmo can be boiled to be a lot softer so they need to work on that.

However, it’s a good place for cheap decent meal, nothing too spectacular though. My bill was under N1000 and i was full, I think thats a pretty great deal.
