Yes I know we have been spending a lot of time in Gwarinpa lately. Its like a little city within Abuja really and there are so many restaurants and bukas there.
Anyway, on my usual DealDey food prowl..i found a Shirleys coupon for their jumbo sharwarma at N999 which i thought was a good price for a JUMBO (i was thinking maybe the length of my arm don’t judge me I am a chop chop) so i purchased it and found my way to Shirleys on 3rd Avenue in Gwarinpa. You can’t miss Shirleys really, they have an imposing building that you can’t miss. They are also right next to yogurberry and have a great outside seating area if you are so inclined in this hot Abuja sun.
I went into the main restaurant to make my order and the not so nice hostess told me to go outside to the sharwarma stand instead. The sharwarma guy was much nicer (he had a permanent smile I was wondering if one of my shirt buttons was open) and he took my coupon and told me the sharwarma would take 15 mins to make. He was right, he handed me my sharwarma and I went into the main restaurant to eat it.
Maybe i need to stop taking these Dealdey things at face value..I was handed a regular chicken sharwarma with cheese and sausage..there was nothing jumbo about it. In addition the regular price of the sharwarma is ..wait for it…N1000!!!! so 1 naira is the huge discount..gosh i give up!
Anyway, the sharwarma was quite nice I must say..it had a pepper sauce in it too so i definitely enjoyed it. I was tempted by the dessert menu so I decided to get a “cinnamon roll” (N300) which was on display..it didn't look like one but that was what the waitress called it so i believed her. Yea it was definitely just sweet bread with raisins..Sigh.
I have tried some of their cakes before and they are quite nice, the atmosphere is great too for a date or just quiet time to work on your laptop. Service is nothing special though (aside from the sharwarma guy..shoutouts to him).
